Rawai Beach Guide
Rawai is the first recreational beach on Phuket, first visited by the people from Phuket Town years ago and today it’s still one of the most popular beaches for the locals. Back then, these visitors would drive about 17km to enjoy the beach in the afternoon. Quickly it became an important tourist destination and many facilities were started to established in this area.
Today Rawai is a fully working beach destination with great accommodations and all kinds of awesome facilities for its visitors. It also became a launching point for day boat excursions going to Phuket and its surrounding islands. Here you can hire long tail boats for a fishing or snorkelling trip, or you can also use it to visit Racha Island, Koh Lone Island or Coral Island. This beach also works as a mooring point for local fishermen who line in nearby villages.
Rawai Beach is not really an ideal place for swimming, but it has a charming natural touch of a tropical paradise, plus it’s also a great spot to watch the sunset. There are many interesting attractions in Rawai, each has its own uniqueness and offers different experience to the visitors.
Laem Ka Beach – This beach is unique for a number of reasons. The most unique feature is that it’s the only beach in the southern Phuket that’s facing east and good for swimming. It’s also a recreational beach that offers a full-on Thai experience. The locals are so friendly in this area, foreign tourists are so welcomed in this area.
Phuket Orchid Farm – This farm is a family business that began operating decades ago. This is the largest orchid nursery on Phuket where you can see lots of Thai’s famous and colourful orchids. You can also buy freshly cut orchids that can be packed for air-travel.
Phuket Seashell Museum – Located near Evason resort, this museum displays various seashellsfrom all around the world. Many of the seashells being displayed in this museum have really high value.
Phromthep Cape – This is the best known location on the island, it has been the subject of many photographs for a long time. Every evening a lot of tourists gather in this spot to watch the fantastic scene of the sunset.
Sea Gypsies Village (Chao Ley) – The people of Chao Ley have settled in Rawai for a very long time. Most of these villagers are fishermen, but there are also others who work as tour guides or selling souvenirs to tourists.
Wat Sawang Arom – This temple is the center of Buddhist life in Rawai. It’s small but it has a gorgeous architecture even though it’s not as intricate as the larger temples on the island.
